I dreamt of playing in a punk band ever since punk hit me first time in summer of 1977 at the tender age of 11! In 1983 I simply asked mates at work to form a band and there was The Decay. One of the other guys liked the Clash and one the Clash and Telephone, but else they didn’t know much about punk. First practise happened in the chapel(!) of the Institut Montana in Zug in April of 1984. It was a different line up already. Two of the members went to skool at the Institut. Our line up was me with partly Romanian roots,a half Mexican,an Austrian and an Argentinian! Crazy as we were we called a studio in England to book studio time in August of 1984. On our way there our bassist stepped back and 1 day before we left our drummer quit as well,so the singer and me arrived at the studio and the engineer welcomed us with a friendly “you must be crazy”-we thought it’s a new way to say hello! We told him we want to record all our songs we had lyrix for, that being 54 or something. Again he called us crazy. He had to admit in the end he didn’t expect us to do 13 songs as we did! Since we had no drummer let alone drums, his drumputer came in handy as did the synth bass. Simon called a friend of his to come and play bass, and so we had a professional bassist in this chaos for a couple of songs.September 1984 saw us play our first gig at the Jugi Volketswil. Our drummer and bassist have returned by then. But then the singer pulled out for reasons unknown to this day. Probably he was just scared…A month later we booked studio time again and invited 3 of our metal friends to join in on the fun. So we went there recorded our songs switching instruments after each song. Total chaos. Amazing that some of the songs actually sound cool! After that we got in Andy on guitar and practised like a real band for the first time. We practised for what was to become our debut 7’’. Martin all of a sudden wanted to play guitar too so we were forced to kick him out right before recording time!Ha. I played a drunken bass for the first time in my life during the EP recordings. When it came to the mixing the engineer left us on our own and so we just put all buttons up to the max and…it sounded so raw and great!Sadly the press plant told us it would destroy all speakers so we had to remix it all.And this time the engineer did it and he had no idea about punk and the EP turned out shit. After the EP we got in Fäbe on bass and played our 2nd and last gig at the Punkhaus in Bern-our first time being in a squat-in 1985.
I was told we played our songs 2-3 times, cos apparently I was well too drunk and I can’t remember much of that day…Somehow the band ended after that and we shortly became Einheit 731 with Mäge-Vocals, Michi Tränkle-Guitar, Fäbe-Bass and Pablo-Drums. With that shortlived band we even made it on a comp.tape in Germany with our song “12 vor 9”. November 1985 Andy,me and Snoopy Greenpeace returned as the Decay to the studio for the 3rd demo. But that was way too good,so we decided to form the band The Brains Of Humans…The Decay never officially split up and might record something new whenever at least one original member is part of the recording chaos.Sick Records was done by Andy and Pablo. Later on Mäge (Einheit 731) joined in as well before kicking me out for what I guess were the right reasons (laziness and no money).
Anti-© Pablo

Artist: Decontrol
Title: Demo 1
Songs:
Media: MC
Released: 1985
Label & Cat. #:
Style: Punk
Members: Andi Steril
Add.
